It was not a day for the fair weather supporter last Sunday as the boys took the field on a cold, wet day to take on our old friends Netherley Wood Lane Legion.
The pitch was extremely muddy and it was never going to be a game where good passing would win the day but the lads got "stuck in" and started the match well.
It was again a match where the game was finely balanced but it was Wood Lane who took the lead with a scrambled effort that left Liam with no chance.
Minutes later the Mags broke clear and Luke Graham hit a fine strike that seemed destined for the top corner only for it to rebound back out off the inside of the post.
Still ruing our mis-fortune a slip up at the back ( later blamed on a mound of mud ) saw Wood lane race clear to score a second to lead 2 - 0 at half time.
The boys started the second half in a much brighter fashion and were unlucky not to get a goal or two back.
But as they pressed forward for a corner we were caught out on the break when their forward raced clean through to make it 3 - 0.
The boys kept plugging away however, and even at this stage we were still searching for a way back into the game.
It wasn't our day however, and Wood Lane again counter attacked to good effect to make it 4 - 0.
Much to their credit the lads still battled on and Andrew Lott scored an absolute cracker to give us a consolation goal.
Had there been another 10 minutes or so to play I honestly think that the lads would have got another goal or two but we can still take great encouragement from the attitude of the lads.
You will notice in these match reports that every goal we concede is described as "scrappy" or "against the run of play" wheras any goals we score are generally described as " goal of the season contenders " or "absolute crackers".
I would just like to point out that this is un-biased reporting at it's best and that these descriptions are all factual.
PS Special thanks go to Joseph Yobo for that brilliant Beach Ball impersonation.
